SEARS Scholarship Fund

The Southeast Association of Rail Shippers Scholarship Fund is a reflection of the SEARS membership and the future students that plan to make contributions to professional positions and industries across the nation. Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of SEARS Scholarship committee and are granted on a competitive basis. Awards will be made on an annual basis in the spring semester, requiring application and review for each calendar year.

How are recipients selected?

Scholarship recipients will be chosen from the pool of completed applications submitted to the Southeast Association of Rail Shippers before the established deadline. Scholarship recipients will be selected on a competitive basis based on merit. The Scholarship Committee will choose the recipients by evaluating each eligible student’s completed application.

What are the obligations of recipient?

 

  • Provide a current headshot and short biography in order to be featured on the SEARS website and social media.
  • Recipients are also invited to attend the Fall meeting for SEARS
What are the requirements?

 

  • A fully complete application
  • A personal statement/essay describing your current and future goals and how this scholarship may help you achieve these goals. Should be no longer than 500 words
  • A copy of your Academic Transcript, including high school and any college classes taken.
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation. The letters can be from anyone that knows the applicant well and can write on behalf of the student. Possible sources could be, but are not limited to: teachers/professors, counselors, employers, and coaches. A letter of recommendation from an active member of SEARS will give additional weight, but is not a full requirement.
  • A list of activities that may include employment, volunteerism, sports, and other extracurricular type activities
  • Please feel free to include any other information that the Scholarship Committee should consider.
What is the amount of the scholarship?

The scholarship stipend is a one-time disbursement of $1,000. Funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient.

Who is eligible?

 

  • Open to candidates getting a degree in the fields of Transportation, Business, or Engineering
  • Awards will be made on a yearly basis, requiring application and review for each calendar year.
  • High school students or full-time enrolled undergraduate college students. Students must be in good standing at their respective high school, college, or university and must be United States citizens. Applicants can be either dependent or non-dependent students. Dependent students are defined as those who receive support from parents or guardians.
